UP-SITE Bucharest Apartment – A Japandi-Inspired Sanctuary with Breathtaking Lake Views
Designed by TIUGA STUDIO, this exquisite residence in the prestigious UP-SITE Bucharest building on Calea Floreasca exemplifies the essence of Japandi design—a seamless fusion of Japanese minimalism and Nordic functionality, softened by warm, organic materials. Overlooking the serene Floreasca Lake, just across from Promenada Mall, this apartment is a haven of tranquility, refined simplicity, and natural harmony in the heart of the city.
From the moment of entry, the space evokes a profound sense of serenity, with textured plaster walls, natural wood accents, and ambient lighting setting the tone for a cohesive and immersive design experience. A statement circular backlit mirror enhances depth, while sculptural décor and handcrafted wooden consoles reinforce the organic materiality that defines the Japandi aesthetic.
The living area is a testament to balance and restraint, anchored by a modular neutral-toned sofa that exudes effortless sophistication. Earthy textures, woven area rugs, and handcrafted wooden coffee tables contribute to a tactile and inviting atmosphere. A custom wooden slatted partition subtly delineates the space while maintaining an open, fluid layout. The inclusion of lush indoor greenery strengthens the connection to nature—a fundamental principle of Japandi philosophy.
Seamlessly integrated into the living space, the kitchen embodies understated luxury with its travertine stone countertops and backsplash, fluted wood cabinetry, and minimalist black fixtures. A sculptural kitchen island doubles as a statement piece, accompanied by handcrafted bar stools that add artisanal warmth. Above, an asymmetrical cluster of pendant lights enhances the organic, crafted feel of the space, celebrating Japanese craftsmanship and timeless simplicity.
The master bedroom is a retreat of wabi-sabi elegance, embracing soft linen bedding, wooden paneling, and indirect cove lighting to create a calming, intimate ambiance. A striking arched headboard feature, softly illuminated, introduces a sculptural dimension, while Japandi-inspired pendant lights resembling delicate washi paper lanterns enhance the space’s meditative character. Floor-to-ceiling textured curtains frame the breathtaking lake view, further immersing the room in its natural surroundings.
The bathrooms evoke a spa-like tranquility, defined by curved mirrors, stone vessel sinks, and soft backlighting. Travertine stone surfaces, sleek wall-mounted fixtures, and warm wood accents establish an atmosphere of effortless luxury. In the master bathroom, a handcrafted sculptural vanity highlights the artistry of Japandi design, while the guest bathrooms feature organic-shaped mirrors and textured wall finishes for a refined sensory experience.
Throughout the apartment, lighting plays a crucial role, enhancing materials and textures with soft, diffused illumination. Indirect cove lighting, recessed ceiling fixtures, and paper-inspired pendant lights contribute to a warm, inviting atmosphere—blending the Nordic concept of hygge with the Japanese wabi-sabi ethos of imperfection and authenticity.
This Japandi-inspired apartment at UP-SITE Bucharest, envisioned by TIUGA STUDIO, is a masterful expression of harmonious design, natural elegance, and mindful living. Through its meticulous balance of textures, neutral tones, and organic materials, it creates a serene yet visually compelling urban retreat. With panoramic lake views and a timeless, calming aesthetic, this residence is tailored for those who seek a perfect synergy of modern minimalism and nature-inspired warmth.
